Every year, for more than 30 years, Lions clubs in Ireland and around the world have sponsored a very special art contest known as the ‘Peace Poster Competition’. Creating peace posters gives young students aged 11 to13 the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the chosen theme. Posters advance through several judging levels:

  • Local Level: Participating National Schools – Abbey, Duniry, Killeen, Killimor, Portumna and Woodford.
  • District Level: Participating local poster winners from all Lions Clubs in Ireland. The winning poster from this stage goes forward to represent Ireland internationally.
  • International Level: Judges select 1 grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners. LEARN MORE

2022/23 LEAD WITH COMPASSION

This year was again a very successful project for Portumna and District Lions Club. Six local national schools were briefed, encouraging students to think about peace, creatively express what it meant to them and share their vision of the theme ‘Lead with Compassion’. Four schools committed to entering and after a full day of judging by four Lions Club members, a winner was chosen from each school. Awards were presented to each of the winners as well as their classrooms involved.

We spent time at each school to tell students about our Lions Club and all the work we do in the community.

Emilie Deon – Killeen N.S.
Caoimhe Darcy – Duniry N.S.
Grace Killeen – Abbey N.S.
Emily Villers – Portumna N.S.

2021/22 WE ARE ALL CONNECTED

Winner: Tara Kilcar – Duniry N.S.

The standards were again very high this year and many budding artists came forward with entries received from Duniry, Killeen, Killimor, Portumna National Schools. Tara received a €50 voucher to spend at Loughrea School Supplies, as did her school and the other schools as gesture of appreciation for their participation and coordination.

This youth project provides a wonderful opportunity to promote our club and make people aware of the work done by members at ground level in our communities.
