ANNUAL HOLIDAY PROJECT

Each year, Lions Clubs around the country send elderly and deserving citizens on holiday in Trabolgan. The cost for the week per guest (including accommodation and meals) is about €300. This takes place annually in June.

AN POST FUND – POSTAL SURVEY

Lion members, family and friends can apply to be receivers and senders of mail sent to test the quality of the postal system.
For every active participant in the project, the District receives a fee. All monies collected go into a central fund from which Lions Clubs may apply for a grant towards club or Zone projects.


ANTI BULLYING

Leaflets can be distributed to local schools highlighting supports available to pupils and parents. LEARN MORE


CARERS’ WEEKEND – SLIGO AND WEXFORD

This is a weekend for Family Carers offering time to rejuvenate and take time for themselves away. The weekend offers a weekend of counselling / reflexology / beauty pampering along with evening and day entertaining. The cost is between €200-€300 per guest and it take place in the Autumn. CLUB COMPETITIONS

Lions Clubs across the country are encouraged to take part in the following competitions: Scribe Award for Club Contributions to the District Newsletter, Best Website, Best Social Media Presence, Club Pro of the Year and Traveling Lions Competitions. Prizes are given out annually at the District Convention.


CPR TRAINING

Providing CPR Training opportunities for Lions clubs, their members and communities.


DIABETES – TYPE 2 DIABETES

To educate and communicate the Type 2 diabetes risk factors within our communities and actively promote the adoption of healthy eating and lifestyles. To develop and foster community physical activity initiatives including engaging with other organisations involved in Diabetes support. LEARN MORE


FOOD APPEAL AT CHRISTMAS

Food and donations are collected locally at supermarkets and distributed to the less fortunate over the Christmas season. LEARN MORE


HOMELESSNESS

Sleeping bags and sleeping pods are distributed to homeless groups around the country. Donations can be sent by Clubs to help fund this.

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

Message in a Bottle is a simple idea that encourages people to keep their basic personal and medical details in a common place, where emergency teams can easily access them.

NEW VOICES

The aim of new voices is to bring diversity of gender, culture and ideas to our Lions Clubs. It is also making sure to bring new leaders to the fore within our Clubs and our organisation nationally and internationally. LEARN MORE


PEACE POSTER

For the last 30 years Lions clubs around the world have proudly sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace.

SPECTACLE RECYCLING

Lions Clubs International sponsor a worldwide collection and distribution of used spectacles to third world countries. Lions Clubs around Ireland gather old pairs of spectacles and these are shipped to the developing world. LEARN MORE


SUICIDE PREVENTION

We all can play a valuable role in reducing these tragic deaths. Each time we meet a person who has lost a family member or close friend to suicide, we get the same message, ‘please bring the discussion about suicide out in the open’. Training is the key, and Lions Clubs can help to promote recognised training programmes. LEARN MORE


YOUNG AMBASSADOR

The programme encourages young people (15-19 years old) to see community service as an integral part of leadership skills. The programme is looking for leaders of the future with an emphasis on community service as being part of that leadership. LEARN MORE


YOUTH EXCHANGE

This programme invites young people from around Europe to Ireland and also gives young people from Ireland the opportunity to cultivate new friendships with individuals that have different backgrounds, beliefs, and customs.

YOUTH FOOTBALL – U13 COMPETITIONS

A tournament sanctioned by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) to promote Lionism through sport. 2021 saw the launch of a girls competition running parallel with the boys.
