Our annual Christmas Food Appeal is our longest running and most successful project (since 1998) in our Club and nationally. During December each year Lions across Ireland fundraise for the needy in our society.

Portumna and District Lions Club do a bucket collection at the exits of Supervalu on the Saturday prior to Christmas Day and at Church gates in Portumna and surrounding parishes also. A Shopping Trolley is also placed at each exit for shoppers at Supervalu, to leave non perishable items.

The money is collected is used to provide voucher and hampers to people who need it at Christmas, in Portumna, Gortanumera, Boula, Killimor, Tiernascragh, Tynagh, Abbey, Duniry , Killeen, Woodford and Looscaun.

We have always found people to be extremely generous and supportive. We are also indebted to Supervalu Portumna and Lynch’s Hardware for their support  and generosity each year.

PORTUMNA & DISTRICT LIONS & SANTA WERE VERY BUSY!

Our Christmas Food Appeal was very successful in December with our trolleys and buckets. As always, our collections took place at O’Meara’s SuperValu in Portumna and lots of fun was had by all! With the generosity of our communities, we were able to spread happiness and a little help to those who needed it. It was a good Christmas and now… Happy New Year to all Lions Clubs near and far!
