The Lions Club Carers’ Weekend Away is a unique community project which is fully funded by Lions Clubs and hosted annually to give family Carers the opportunity of respite, from their caring roles, they so badly need.
2022/23
This year 72 family Carers from around the country enjoyed a much deserved break in the Yeats Country Hotel and Leisure Centre in Sligo from the 18 to 20 November 2022. We were honored to be able to send one Carer from our community.
Clare Duffy, Family Carers Ireland, spoke of benefits, entitlements and forthcoming proposed changes in legislation. She also held private clinics with Carers who required one-to-one.
Thanks went to Mona Eames, one of our club members, for providing many therapy sessions over the weekend and to Anita of Wild Bragan Holistics for the Reiki healing group sessions. These healing and therapy sessions were very popular with Carers. Two clinical psychologists were also available for counseling.
Carers were given Spa Treatments as well as full use of the Leisure Centre. There was a talk by fashion stylist Bernie Delaney, Table Quiz and Card Games by Lion Aine Kelly and a demonstration by Alan Smith on how to make Christmas wreaths and table decorations which the Carers were able to take home with them.
The weekend concluded on Sunday with a special blessing for these wonderful Carers.
